ABOUT MAECOM

Two hundred years ago, Thomas Jefferson said "Learning is a Lifetime Pursuit."Following his example, MAECOM, the adult education division of the Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission, has provided local adults with individualized academic and continuing education programs.

In order to accommodate the varied schedules of adult learners, courses are held on a continuous basis throughout the year with flexible class offerings of day, evening, and/or weekend training.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

MAECOM's High School Completion and Basic Skills Programs are tuition free and have an open enrollment policy allowing students to register year round for day and evening hours. Advisors and teachers work with students on an individual and small group basis to assist in program planning, development and completion.

  • The state issued High School Diploma Preparation Program (GED) helps students prepare for the General Education Diploma examination.

  • Adult Basic Education (ABE) assists adults with basic skills in reading, math and language.
English-As-A-Second Language (ESL) provides beginning and advanced classes to foreign-born students who want to learn all phases of English.

  • Online Computer Instruction provides students with individualized lessons in which the computer acts as a private tutor. Students take advantage of this program to improve basic skills reading, math, language, as well as survival skills, basic computer programming and a complete GED review.

  • The Life Skills Program is a comprehensive employability skills series designed to provide hands-on experience in how to choose, find, obtain and keep a job. A variety of counseling and instructional techniques are integrated through the use of video, audio, and printed materials. Resume writing and job seeking skills are included.
